JUSTINO. (Marco Juniano) JUSTINO clarissimo abreuiado dela historia general del famoso y excellente historiador Diogo Pompeyo:

In 4.º de 26x19 cm. Com [xii], 117 fólios. Encadernação recente inteira de pele [executada pelo mestre encadernador Império Graça] com nervos, rótulo vermelho e ferros a ouro na lombada.

Magnífica impressão gótica com belo frontispício gravado ilustrado com cenas bíblicas, apresentando o título ao centro impresso a duas cores. Capitulares xilográficas ao longo do texto.

Exemplar com leves e ocasionais restauros marginais no texto, sendo mais pronunciados nos dois últimos fólios.

Primeira edição, raríssima, da tradução da obra de Justino, o historiador, com um resumo da obra perdida por Diogo Pompeu que descrevia a história do mundo. Segundo Palau, foi traduzida por Jorge de Bustamante, encarregue pelo livreiro Juan de Medina da tradução das obras ‘Dialogo Re Militari’, ‘Guerras Civiles’ de Apiano e desta obra de Justino. Esta a tradução foi incluída no índice expurgatório, obrigando todas as seguintes edições a serem realizadas fora de Espanha.

 Binding:  full calf, recent replica on 18th Century style [bookbinder Império Graça] gilt at spine and tooled with frames at boards.

Superb gothic print; frontispiece engraved with biblical scenes, presenting the central occiali printed in two colors. At the beginning of each chapter (libro) comes an historiated capital letter. Copy with some restorations at frontispiece; in the text, and specially in the last two folios.

Rare first edition of the translation of the work of Justino, with a summary of the work lost by Pompey Diogo describing the history of the World. According to Palau it was translated by Jorge Bustamante, tasked by the bookseller Juan Medina of the translation of the works ‘Dialogo Re Militari’, ‘Guerras Civiles’ of Apiano of this of Justino. This translation was included in the “index Expurgatorium”, forcing all of the following editions to be printed outside Spain. Palau, IV, p. 149.
