Este tratado é composto por uma parte descritiva de cada um dos projectos públicos de caminhos-de-ferro executados em Inglaterra, seguido dos respectivos diagramas, planos, desenhos e esquemas. As duas partes estão divididas por uma 1 gravura de um desenho a carvão do autor, litografado por Cremetti (em Liége), representando a construção do caminho-de-ferro de Londres a Birmingham com o panorama das obras do túnel de North Chureh [Church], durante os trabalhos de construção em Setembro de 1837.

A segunda parte, inclui os levantamentos das obras de engenharia (65 lâminas) nas vias Londres-Birmingham, Londres, Bristol, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham-Derby, Leeds-Selby, Birmingham-Liverpool e Manchester (terminal central), de Slamannan e o canal de Lancastre. As 12 últimas lâminas representam projectos de trabalhos de alvenaria, pontes oblíquas, pontes em ferro de estilo neogótico, entradas de túneis e outros projectos de pontes em ferro com diversos estilos, incluindo o egípcio.

De acordo com a nota do editor no verso do anterrosto, todos os testemunhos e informações que constam da obra foram fornecidos por fontes legítimas, nomeadamente por engenheiros que participaram nas construções. Os desenhos e esquemas são a representação exacta dos planos originais que foram usados nos projectos.

Samuel Charles Brees (1810-1865) engenheiro civil, arquitecto, pintor, supervisor de obras de caminhos-de-ferro, nasceu em Inglaterra e também aí faleceu no seu regresso da Austrália, onde viveu mais de 10 anos. Entre 1837 e 1840 publicou três monografias sobre a construção de caminhos-de-ferro.

The first part of this treaty describes several public railway works carried out in England followed by a second part with the matching diagrams, plans, drawings and schemes. These two parts are divided by one reproduction of a beautiful charcoal drawing from the author, lithographed by Cremetti (in Liege), showing the construction of the railway from London to Birmingham with the panorama of the tunnel projected north of Chureh [the North Church Tunnel], during the campaign work in September 1837.

The second part includes the surveys of the works (65 plates) from London to Birmingham, London, Bristol, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Derby to Birmingham, Leeds to Selby, Birmingham and Manchester to Liverpool (large junction), and the Slamannan of Lancaster Canal, and projects (last 12 plates) of mason constructions, neo-Gothic style iron bridges, entrances of tunnels, bridges and other projects in iron, inspired in Egyptian and several other styles.

According to the note on the back of the half page, all the information and data were given by trustworthy sources, mainly by engineers who took part in the constructions. The drawings and diagrams are the exact representation of the original plans used in the projects.

Samuel Charles Brees (1810-1865), civil engineer, architect, painter, supervisor of the railways works, was born in England and also died there on his return from Australia, where he lived for over 10 years. Between 1837 and 1840 he published three monographs on the construction of railways.
