First edition of the French translation – first published in Latin in 1627- the work deals with the reports from Brasil, Japan, Goa, Mozambique, Etiopia and Malabar. One of the most extensive parts (pags. 149-170) is dedicated to Brazil in the "Extrait des lettres envoyez du Bresil l’an 1621", “with news about the colleges of Bajet & Castella, Rio de Janeiro, Maison du Saint Esprit, Piratininga, Pernambuco” (Borba de Moraes): these are the letters sent to Europe by Father Ferdinand Cardim, although signed Miguel de Araujo. The same bibliographer gave a lengthy description of the printer and says that Cramoisy “was one of the greatest publishers of his time in France”.

The Jesuit relations were collections of letters sent from missionaries on their views & observations of the costumes, progress of the faith, culture and native behavior of the regions where they were located: Brazil, Etiópia, Indonesia, India (Malabar and the city of Goa), Japan, Tibet and China.
