Proveniente do espólio de Alberto de Oliveira, nomeado Cônsul Geral de Portugal em Tanger pelo Rei de Portugal D. Carlos I, por carta patente em 1896.

El Menebhi (1870 – Tânger 1941) juntou-se jovem à corte marroquina em Marraquexe onde serviu sob as ordens de Ba Ahmed, famoso Grão-vizir e Regente do sultão Moolay Abdul Aziz, enquanto este era menor e após a morte do seu pai o sultão Moolay El-Hassan em 1894. No leito de morte Ba Ahmed recomenda Menebhi como “Allaf”, ministro da guerra do jovem sultão, posto que ocupa até aos últimos meses de 1903. Fixa-se em Tanger como “mendoub” o representante do sultão. Tinha entretanto participado em várias embaixadas e actos oficiais na Europa e estabelecido boas relações de amizade, nomeadamente com a coroa britânica, tendo inclusivamente em 1901 sido agraciado pelo rei Eduardo VII com o titulo de GCMG (Grande Cruz da Ordem de S. Miguel e S. Jorge), o que fez com que a coroa britânica fizesse dele um dos seus, muito poucos, protegidos políticos sob o artigo XVI da convenção de Madrid de 1880. O seu charme, erudição, inteligência e hospitalidade granjearam-lhe notoriedade entre a comunidade estrangeira, especialmente entre os ingleses, que para além da já mencionada Grande Cruz o agraciaram com vários outros títulos. Na altura da sua morte em 1941, Menebhi tinha vivido mais de 30 anos com totais privilégios de completa cidadania britânica e assistido às coroações dos reis Eduardo VII, Jorge V e Jorge VI como enviado especial do Sultão de Marrocos.

El Menebhi (1870 – Tangiers 1941) joined the Moroccan court in Marrakech as a youngster and served under the orders of Ba Ahmed, famous Grand Vizier and Regent for Sultan Moolay Abdul Aziz, while he was a minor and after the death of his father Sultan Moolay El-Hassan in 1894. In his deathbed, Ba Ahmed recommended Menebhi as 'Allaf,' minister of war of the young sultan, position he occupies until the last months of 1903. After that he settles in Tangier as 'mendoub', the Sultan's representative. Meantime he had been involved in several embassies and official acts in Europe and established good friendly relations, especially with the British crown. He was granted in 1901, by King Edward VII, with the title of GCMG (Grand Cross of St. Michael and St. George), being this one of the reasons the British Government extended its protection, making him one of the very few British political protégés under Article XVI of the Madrid Convention of 1880. His charm, erudition, intelligence and hospitality earned him notoriety among the foreign community, especially among the English that, in addition to the aforementioned Grand Cross, graced him with several other titles. At the time of his death early in 1941 he had enjoyed full British status for over thirty years, and attended the coronations of kings Edward VII, George V and George VI as Special Envoy of the Sultan of Morocco.
