GRAVURA - SÉC. XVIII - SINAGOGA PORTUGUESA DE AMESTERDÃO - A CONSAGRAÇÃO.

[Título]: LA DEDICACE DE LA SYNAGOGUE DES JUIFS PORTUGAIS, A AMSTERDAM. S/d [1721].

[Legenda lado direito]: La dedicace de la Synagogue et l"entré des livres de la Loy, se celebrera pendent 8 jours, le 10 du mois de Menahem 5435, qui se raporte au mois d"Aout, 1675, on en fait la commemoration tout les Ans. [Legenda lado esquerdo] - l"Hechal où on garde les livres de la Loy; B - Thebá ou Pupitre où le Hazan et Hachan lisent la Loy; C - Les 2 Galleries pour les femmes.

Folio de 36x46,5 cm [mancha gráfica: 31,5x40,5 cm].

Gravura aberta em chapa de aço. Bom exemplar, apresentando dobra ao centro do fólio, margens generosas e verso em branco. Desenhado e gravado por Bernard Picard (1673-1733).

Gravura proveniente do Tomo I (gravura nº 2) da obra Collection de Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde representées par des figures dessinées de la main de Bernard Picard; avec une explication historique, & quelques dissertations curieuses [...], publicado em 1723-37.

 

 Title: The consacration of the Synagogue of Portuguese Jews. In Amsterdam (La Dedicace de la Synagogue des Juifs Portugais, A Amsterdam.) N.d. [1721].

Caption at the bottom right (translation): The consecration of the Synagogue and the entrance of the books of the Law [Torah] will occur during 8 days, from the 10th of the month of Menahem, 5435, which corresponds to the month of August 1675, and the commemorations will be held every year.

Caption at the bottom left (translation): - Hechal where the Books of The Law are kept; où on garde les livres de la Loy; B - Thebá or Pulpit where the Hazan and the Hachan read the Law; C – the two Galleries for the women.

Good copy, the folio is folded at the middle, with broad margins and blank back.

Drawn and engraved by Bernard Picard (1673-1733).

This engraving was included in the first volume (engraving nr. 2) of the work “Collection de Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde representées par des figures dessinées de la main de Bernard Picard; avec une explication historique, & quelques dissertations curieuses [...]”, published in 1723-37.
