Ilustrado no texto dos quatro primeiros volumes com os retratos de personagens históricos, entre eles o Duque da Terceira, o General Garcez, com a reprodução de unidades militares em marcha ou em combate e com a reprodução das medalhas atribuídas.

Conjunto completo, pois o 2º volume, que seria dedicado aos anos de 1796 a 1806, tratando da Guerra de 1801, designada por Guerra das Laranjas, nunca foi publicado.

O 1º volume está ilustrado a cores, no texto, com a planta da fortaleza de S. Fernando de Figueras e, em extratexto, com esboços topográficos do terreno ocupado pelas tropas portuguesas perto dos Pirinéus em Setembro de 1794 e em Março de 1795 e com o plano do ataque a Puigcerdá em 26 de Julho de 1795.

O 3º volume está ilustrado, no texto com o plano da Batalha do Bussaco e, em extratexto, com os planos da batalha do Vimeiro, com a reprodução do Quadro das Almas alusivo ao Desastre da Ponte das Barcas, no Porto, com os planos da Batalha de Badajoz, da Batalha de Chiclana e da Batalha de Albuera.

O 4º volume está ilustrado em extratexto com os planos da Praça de Badajoz, da Batalha de Victoria e dos ataques contra a Praça de S. Sebastião de Guipúscoa

O 5º volume está ilustrado, com a reprodução em fac-simile de uma carta do General Garcez, mais três outros documentos, seis cartas geográficas a cores com planos do combate de Garris, das Batalhas de Toulouse (2), Orthès, Tarbes e Waterloo, 12 folhas com a reprodução comentada das assinaturas dos mais destacados intervenientes na Guerra Peninsular, e com  16 estampas a cores, em folhas duplas.

O 6º volume contém a partitura de um Hino Patriótico da Nação Portuguesa, de 1810, da autoria de Marcos Portugal e diversos quadros estatísticos.

Exemplar com dedicatória do autor, na folha de anterrosto do 1º volume.

Obra de grande qualidade gráfica, impressão sobre papel encorpado, com belos caracteres tipográficos, ornamentada com cabeções, iniciais decoradas e vinhetas de remate todas com motivos militares e cenas de guerra.

Cláudio Bernardo Pereira de Chaby (Lisboa 1818 - 1905) Oficial do Exército, combateu na fase final da Guerra Civil de 1828 a 1834 e na Guerra da Patuleia, tendo atingido o posto de General de Divisão. É autor de uma vasta obra literária, poesia, teatro, traduções. Por incumbência oficial elaborou a presente obra e também a transcrição e publicação de documentos históricos do século XVII, existentes no Arquivo Geral do Ministério da Guerra.

Illustrated in the text of the first four volumes with portraits of historical characters, among them the Duke of Terceira, General Garcez, with the reproduction of military units on the march or in combat and with the reproduction of awarded medals.

Complete set, since the 2nd volume, which would be dedicated to the years 1796 to 1806, concerning the War of 1801, called the War of the Oranges, was never published.

The 1st volume is illustrated in color, with the plan of the fortress of S. Fernando de Figueras in text, and, hors text, with topographic sketches of the land occupied by the Portuguese troops near the Pyrenees in September 1794 and in March 1795, and with the plan of the attack on Puigcerdá on July 26th 1795.

The 3rd volume is illustrated, with the plan of the Battle of Bussaco in text, and hors text, with the plans of the battle of Vimeiro; the reproduction of the Quadro das Almas, alluding to the Ponte das Barcas disaster, in Oporto; and with the plans of Battle of Badajoz, Battle of Chiclana and Battle of Albuera.

The 4th volume is illustrated hors text with the plans of the Plaza de Badajoz, the Battle of Victoria and the attacks on the Plaza de S. Sebastião de Guipúscoa.

The 5th volume is illustrated, with a fac-simile reproduction of a letter from General Garcez, plus three other documents; six coloured geographic cards with plans for the combat of Garris, the Battles of Toulouse (2), Orthès, Tarbes and Waterloo; 12 folios with the reproduction of the signatures and comments on some of the most prominent personalities in the Peninsular War; and with 16 color prints, in double page.

The 6th volume contains the score of a Patriotic Anthem of the Portuguese Nation, from 1810, by Marcos Portugal; and several statistical tables.

Work of great graphic quality, printed on thick paper, with beautiful typographic characters, decorated capital letters and vignettes with military motifs and scenes of war.

Cláudio Bernardo Pereira de Chaby (Lisbon 1818 - 1905) Army officer, he fought in the final phase of the Civil War from 1828 to 1834 and in the Patuleia War, having achieved the rank of Division General. He is the author of a vast literary work, poetry, theater, translations. On official commission he elaborated the present work and also the transcription and publication of historical documents of the 17th century, from the General Archive of the Ministry of War.
