Conjunto completo da rara tiragem especial restrita de 160 exemplares em papel de linho com selo branco e assinados pelo director da Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra, Dr. Joaquim de Carvalho. O 1º e 2º volumes são o nº 111/160, o 3º volume o nº 66/160 e o 4º volume o nº 145/160.

A primeira edição foi publicada em 8 volumes entre 1551 e 1561 e a segunda data de 1833, tendo sido publicada uma edição só do primeiro livro em 1797. A obra conheceu uma larga divulgação em toda a Europa com traduções em espanhol (1554), francês (1553), italiano (1578) e holandês (1670).

Esta edição é especialmente valiosa por ser a primeira a incluir 31 capítulos do Livro Nono, que se conservaram inéditos até 1929. Inclui em anexo duas orações do pai do autor e um estudo sobre as variantes das edições do século XVI.

O autor narra a história da Índia Portuguesa desde a viagem de Vasco da Gama até ao ano de 1542.

Copy with the 3rd and 4th volumes being uncut and a slight damage on the spine of the 3rd volume.

A complete set of a rare special edition of just 160 copies, printed in linen paper with embossing stamp and signed by the Press Director of the University of Coimbra, Dr. Joaquim de Carvalho. The 1st and 2nd volumes have the number 111/160, the 3rd 66/160, and the 4th 145/160.

The first edition was published in 8 volumes between 1551 and 1561, and the second edition is from 1833. There is also an edition of just the first volume in 1797. The work was well known all over Europe, having been translated into Spanish (1554), French (1553), Italia (1578), and Dutch (1670).

This edition is especially valuable because it includes 31 chapters of the Ninth Book, which remained unpublished until 1929. It has attached two speeches of the author’s father and a study about the variants of the 16th century editions. The author narrates the history of Portuguese India from Vasco da Gama’s voyage until the year of 1542.
