Ilustrado com um globo com as armas dos Médicis na folha de rosto que se encontra um pouco manchada de humidade, o globo repete-se na folha da dedicatória, 9 belas capitulares xilogravadas com vistas de cidades, 21 desenhos de astrolábios e diagramas no texto.

Impressão nítida em caracteres rotundos ou romanos com algumas linhas em itálico estampada sobre excelente papel de linho.

Primeira edição deste tratado sobre a construcção e utilização do astrolábio. Foi escrita pelo famoso cosmógrafo de Cosme de Médicis. Contém a aplicação do planisfério aos astrolábios, relógios solares e também a projecção ortográfica de Juan de Rojas que pertenceu à corte de Carlos V e escreveu o livro Commentariorum in astrolabium, quod planisphaerium vocant, libri sex, Paris, 1550. A admiração de Cosme de Médicis pelo seu cosmógrafo foi a tal ponto que em 1571 escreveu para o geral da Ordem Dominicana pedindo autorização para residir no palácio. Danti construiu uma esfera armilar equinocial na fachada de Santa Maria Novella que lhe permitiu observar o equinócio estival em 11 de Marçode 1574, em vez de 22 de Março, e assim, provar que o calendário Juliano não coincidia com as estações. Depois de cair em desgraça sob o sucessor de Cosme, ele trabalhou intensamente em Roma, onde elaborou um mapa topográfico dos Estados Pontifícios, tornou-se uma figura importante na reforma do calendário calculado sobre o meridiano do Vaticano. Danti (antecipando Tycho Brahe), calculou a obliquidade da eclíptica (inclinação do eixo da terra), com um notável grau de precisão. A sua Propositione XXX dá um ângulo de 23 graus 28 min, enquanto os mais modernos cálculos medem 23 graus 32 minutos.

Ilustrated with : Two globes with the coat-of-arms of the Medicis a 9 historiated capital letters at the biginning of each chapter and 21 woodcut engravings on text showing astronomical projections and data tables. Skilfully printed in round Latin metal-types and lines in cursive.

First edition. Work dedicated to the cardinal Ferdinand of Medicis. The « Factory of the Astrolabe » contains all the instructions to build and to operate the ancestor of the nautical sextant. For the convenience of the user it is a handy text for future reference, containing the astronomical tables with the general instruction to find a global positioning on the latitude of Earth. Illustrated with a theorectical description a basic and pratical operation of the product and the physical discription : main shaft blade marker lock nuts and assembly of the parts. This is the implementation of the astrolabes and sundials to the orthographic projection of Juan de Rojas (who belonged to the court of Carlos V and wrote the book in Commentariorum Astrolabium, quod Planisphaerium vocant, libri fri, Paris, 1550). The admiration for his cosmographer grew to the point that, in 1571, he wrote to the General of the Dominican Order, requesting permission to reside in the palace. Danti constructed an equinotial armillary on the façade of Santa Maria Novella which enabled him to observe in 1574 the equinox falling on 11 March, instead of 22 March, and that proved that the Julian Calendar was falling out of the season. He drew up a topographical map of the papal states, and became a leading figure in the calendar reform measured at the meridian at the Vatican. The present work is a detailed and well-illustrated treatise on the astrolabe. Danti (anticipating Tycho Brahe) calculated the obliquity of the ecliptic (the earth's axial tilt) with a remarkable degree of accuracy.
