Os relatos das viagens à Polinésia e à Australásia compreendem as de Fernandes de Queirós, da Tasmânia, e Pelsart. Brosses (1709-1777), historiador e presidente do Parlamento da Borgonha, sugeriu a colonização francesa da Austrália, com desfavorecidos sociais, tais como vagabundos e enjeitados. Os sete mapas são gravados por Robert de Vaugondy dos quais três são de interesse americano, representam os Oceanos Atlântico e Pacífico, na Polinésia, o Estreito de Magalhães com a Terra do Fogo e as Ilhas Malvinas, na Austrália, Austrália, Ilhas Papua e nas Ilhas Carolinas.
