As 50 estampas foram especialmente desenhadas para a obra de F. P Wilmsem por Brezing, Meyer, Müller e Weber; e as chapas abertas Brezing, Guimpel, Weno haas, Fr. Wilh. Meyer; Ludw. Meyer, Tissot e Wachmann. Representam as formas naturais numa sequência taxonómica e hierárquica desde as espécies mais complexas (os símios) até às formas mais simples da natureza (os cristais salinos).

Este álbum de gravuras, com uma introdução dos principais directores de museus zoológicos da Alemanha, destinava-se a acompanhar uma obra em 3 partes (uma para cada reino da natureza, e colocando com actualidade os corais e as esponjas, na estampa nº 38, dentro do reino animal). Destacamos igualmente as estampas das aves do paraíso Picus flavicans e Paradisea (nsº 8, 9, 10 e 11), a estampa com o Casuar e o Dodo (nº 13, Didus Ineptus) animal entretanto extinto na natureza e aqui retratado a partir de um espécimen vivo; a L. Iguana (nº 19) mais tarde observada por Darwin, pelo que este não a descobriu conforme divulgado; os Peixes Balão: Ostracion, Mota e Diodon (nº 24); o Peixe Voador, Trigla Gurnardus (nº 28); e ainda, entre outras, as soberbas reproduções gráficas e anatómicas dos insectos (borboletas, escaravelhos, gafanhoto e grilo (nº 32, Grillus cristatus).

In folium (oblong landscape folio: 36x26 cm) with viii pages and illustrated with 50 folios with superb hand-colored prints, representing the natural figuring of the species from the three kingdoms of Nature (animal, vegetal and mineral).

Binding: contemporary hardcover with calf spine and coated folders. Papercuts gilt at edges. Fresh and very clean copy, showing a slight crease on the titlepage and on the inicial text pages. Title-page engraved from a copper plate.

The 50 engraved plates were especially designed to the work of F. P Wilmsem by Brezing, Meyer, Müller and Weber, and the plates opened by Brezing, Guimpel, Weno haas, Wilh. Meyer, Ludw. Meyer, Tissot and Wachmann. They represent the natural and porportionated shapes of the specimens collected in an hierarchical taxonomic sequence from the more complex species (apes) to the simplest forms of nature (salt crystals). This album of colored plates was designed to accompany such work in 3 text parts (one for each kingdom of nature) and placing corals and sponges, plate No. 38, accordingly within the animal kingdom.

We emphasize the prints of the birds of paradise Picus flavicans and Paradisea (Nos. 8, 9, 10 and 11), the plate with the Cassowary, and Dodo (No. 13, Didus Ineptus) an extinct animal here pictured from a living specimen; L. Iguana (No. 19) later observed by Darwin, so it was not discovered by Darwin as disclosed; the balloon fish: Ostracion, Mota and Diodon (No. 24); the flying fish, Trigla Gurnardus (No. 28), and among other superb reproductions we stress the anatomical and graphical representations of insects (butterflies, beetles, grasshoppers and crickets (e. g. No. 32, Grillus cristatus).
