Profusamente ilustrada no texto e em extratexto com folhas soltas coladas sobre as páginas do texto, com a reprodução fac-similada de grande número de documentos manuscritos, folhas de rosto de livros antigos e retratos da época, sendo o de Colombo e uma vista da cidade italiana de Savona a cores.

Exemplar com ex libris da BirkBeck College, University of London, colado no verso da folha de guarda, a quem o livro foi oferecido pelo Professor E. G. R. Taylor. O ex libris tem um carimbo que refere ter sido este livro vendido por ordem da Universidade na Sotheby's, em 1990. Com carimbo oleográfico da biblioteca universitária com a respectiva cota na folha de guarda posterior.

Publicada originalmente em 1932 pela Cidade de Génova, esta obra é um marco na historiografia colombina. Este livro foi a resposta oficial da Comissão Colombina da Cidade de Génova para reafirmar a identidade italiana do navegador perante as teorias que surgiam na época.

A obra de Monleone e Pessagno é um 'livro-arquivo' projetado para ser a prova definitiva da origem de Colombo. O seu conteúdo é dividido em secções que combinam narrativa histórica e reproduções documentais.

A parte central consiste em centenas de reproduções fotográficas de documentos originais datados de 1429 a 1506, incluindo Registos de Nascimento e Família e provas de que Domenico Colombo e Suzanna Fontanarossa (pais) viviam em Génova, contratos de compra, venda e dívidas da família Colombo no bairro de San Vincenzo e O 'Documento Assereto', peça fundamental que mostra Colombo em Génova em 1479, já adulto, a tratar de negócios de açúcar.

No seu testamento datado de 1498, Colombo afirma explicitamente: 'siendo yo nacido en Genova' (tendo eu nascido em Génova).

Edição bilingue: O texto explicativo surge em Italiano acompanhado por traduções em Inglês, Francês ou Alemão (consoante a edição), com transcrição paleográfica (versões em texto moderno dos manuscritos antigos de difícil leitura) tendo como objetivo principal desmentir as teorias de que Colombo seria espanhol, português ou grego, usando o rigor da prova documental jurídica e administrativa.

Richly illustrated both hors-texte and in the margins, with loose sheets pasted onto the text pages, featuring facsimile reproductions of a large number of handwritten documents, title pages from old books and contemporary portraits, including a colour portrait of Columbus and a view of the Italian city of Savona.

Copy bearing an ex libris from Birkbeck College, University of London,on the front pastedown, to whom the book was presented by Professor E. G. R. Taylor. The bookplate bears a stamp indicating that this book was sold on behalf of the University at Sotheby’s in 1990. It also bears an oleographic stamp from the university library with the corresponding call number on the rear pastedown.

Originally published in 1932 by the City of Genoa, this work is a landmark in the historiography of Columbus. This book was the official response of the City of Genoa’s Columbus Commission to reaffirm the navigator’s Italian identity in the face of theories emerging at the time.

Monleone and Pessagno’s work is an “archive-book” intended to be the definitive proof of Columbus’s origins. Its content is divided into sections that combine historical narrative and documentary reproductions.

The central section consists of hundreds of photographic reproductions of original documents dating from 1429 to 1506, including birth and family registers and evidence that Domenico Colombo and Suzanna Fontanarossa (his parents) lived in Genoa, contracts of purchase, sale and debts relating to the Colombo family in the San Vincenzo district, and the ‘Assereto Document’, a key document showing Columbus in Genoa in 1479, as an adult, conducting sugar trade.

In his will dated 1498, Columbus states explicitly: 'siendo yo nacido en Genova' (having been born in Genoa).

Bilingual edition: The explanatory text appears in Italian, accompanied by translations into English, French or German (depending on the edition), with a palaeographic transcription (modern-language versions of ancient manuscripts that are difficult to read), with the primary aim of refuting theories that Columbus was Spanish, Portuguese or Greek, using rigorous legal and administrative documentary evidence.
