Rara impressão do Tratado de Badajoz que colocava fim à Guerra das Laranja, com termos bastantes severos para Portugal. Existe uma impressão deste mesmo documento no formato in 4.º

Na sequência da Guerra das Laranjas (20 de Maio de 1801 — 6 de Junho de 1801), o conflito que opôs Portugal à Espanha e à França em 1801, devido à Guerra da Segunda Coligação, entre a França e a Inglaterra, o governo português assinou um tratado, com condições humilhantes, que previam a perda para a França de partes do Norte do Brasil e a perda perpétua de Olivença para Espanha.

Foi negociado e assinado pelo Plenipotenciário do Príncipe Regente de Portugal Luís Pinto de Sousa Coutinho, Ministro e Secretário de Estado dos Negócios Estrangeiros e pelo Plenipotenciário do Rei de Espanha, D. Manuel de Godoy, Príncipe da Paz, em Badajoz a 6 de Junho de 1801; ratificado pelo Príncipe-Regente de Portugal, D. João VI, no dia 14, e por Carlos IV de Espanha, a 21 do mesmo mês, mas rejeitado pelo primeiro cônsul da França, Napoleão Bonaparte, que forçou Portugal a aceitar alterações à redação do Tratado, o que levou a um novo diploma, o chamado Tratado de Madrid, que impunha condições ainda mais severas ao reino de Portugal.

Foi revogado pela Conferência de Viena de Áustria em 1815, que restituiu a posse de Olivença a Portugal na sequência da derrota definitiva de Napoleão Bonaparte.

Rare print of the Treaty of Badajoz that ended the War of the Oranges, with rather harsh terms for Portugal. There is a print of the same document in quarto.

In the aftermath of the War of the Oranges (20 May 1801 - 6 June 1801), the conflict that pitted Portugal against Spain and France in 1801, due to the War of the Second Coalition between France and England, the Portuguese government signed a treaty with humiliating conditions that included the loss of parts of northern Brazil to France and the perpetual loss of Olivença to Spain.

It was negotiated and signed by the Plenipotentiary of the Prince Regent of Portugal, Luís Pinto de Sousa Coutinho, Minister and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and by the Plenipotentiary of the King of Spain, Don Manuel de Godoy, Prince of Peace, in Badajoz on 6 June 1801; ratified by the Prince Regent of Portugal, João VI, on the 14th and by Carlos IV of Spain on the 21st. John VI, on the 14th, and by Charles IV of Spain, on the 21st of the same month, but rejected by the first consul of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, who forced Portugal to accept changes to the wording of the Treaty, which led to a new piece of legislation, the so-called Treaty of Madrid, which imposed even harsher conditions on the kingdom of Portugal.

It was revoked by the Austrian Conference of Vienna in 1815, which restored possession of Olivença to Portugal following the definitive defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte.
