Sir Herbert Maxwell (1845 – 1937) foi um proeminente romancista, ensaísta, horticultor e político conservador escocês, de origens aristocráticas. Formado em Eton e no Christ Church, Oxford, serviu como membro do Parlamento pelo condado de Wigtownshire de 1880 a 1906. Além da sua carreira política, Maxwell destacou-se como presidente da Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (1900–1913) e como presidente da National Library of Scotland (1925–1932). Foi eleito membro da Royal Society em 1898 e recebeu a Medalha Victoria de Honra da Royal Horticultural Society em 1917.

Sir Herbert Maxwell (1845 - 1937) was a prominent Scottish novelist, essayist, horticulturist and Conservative politician of aristocratic origins. Educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, he served as Member of Parliament for the county of Wigtownshire from 1880 to 1906. In addition to his political career, Maxwell distinguished himself as president of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland (1900-1913) and as president of the National Library of Scotland (1925-1932). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1898 and received the Victoria Medal of Honour from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1917.
