In 8º de 12x8,5 cm. Com [xxx], 1082, [vi em br.] págs. Encadernação da época em pergaminho flexível, com três atilhos originais. Ilustrado com a marca do impressor na folha de rosto e com uma gravura na página 480, que representa a forma de dispor as tropas de infantaria.

Exemplar com desgaste na encadernação, com falta de um atilho, com ex-libris oleográfico no interior da encadernação, com notas em letra coeva, na folha de guarda e na folha de rosto e com falta das páginas preliminares sem numeração 3 a 6. Esta falta verifica-se igualmente no único exemplar conhecido existente em Portugal, que está na Biblioteca Central de Marinha e por isso poderá dever-se a uma intervenção de censura da Inquisição. Por outro lado, conserva as três últimas folhas em branco do último caderno, em que as duas últimas servem de folhas de guarda.   

Edição muito rara, que não é referida nas principais bibliografias incluindo Brunet. A primeira edição foi publicada em 1587. Estas edições foram publicadas por P. Canaye, Senhor de Fresnes, (1551 - 1610) que escreveu o prefácio.

A obra contém pormenorizadas descrições das batalhas das Guerras de religião em França, no século XVI, estudos sobre manobras militares e táctica, assim como reflexões sobre a situação do país e sobre os problemas dos protestantes franceses designados por Huguenotes. Napoleão admirava esta obra e disse que era: «a Bíblia do soldado»

François de La Nouë (Château de la Gascherie, 1531 - Moncontour, 1591). Capitão huguenote que se distinguiu nas guerras de religião em França e combateu também na Holanda durante o século XVI.

Copy with signs of wear on the binding, with a missing tie, with oleographical ex-libris on the front pastedown, with notes in coeval handwriting on the front and title page and with the unnumbered preliminary pages 3 to 6 missing. This lack of pages is also found on the only known existing copy in Portugal, which is in the Biblioteca Central de Marinha (Central Navy Library), and may therefore be due to censorship intervention by the Inquisition.

Very rare edition, which is not mentioned in the major bibliographies including Brunet. The first edition was published in 1587. These editions were published by P. Canaye, Lord of Fresnes, (1551 - 1610) who wrote the preface.

The work contains detailed descriptions of the battles of the French Wars of Religion in the 16th century, studies on military manoeuvres and tactics, as well as reflections on the situation in the country and the problems of the French Protestants referred to as Huguenots. Napoleon admired this work and said it was: "the soldier's Bible."
