Tem ainda um mapa desdobrável da Europa de grandes dimensões (42,5x52 cm.) nos volumes I e II, e um outro, menor, das partes europeias e asiáticas adjacentes à antiga Constantinopla, no volume III.

As últimas páginas não numeradas do último volume correspondem a um índice toponímico da obra.

Exemplar incompleto, com falta do sétimo volume. Com falhas superficiais nas lombadas e charneiras de todos os volumes, com destaque para a falta do rótulo com o título no volume III e do rótulo com o número do volume nos I, II, III, VIII e X. Algumas folhas apresentam algum acastanhamento próprio do papel.

Edward Gibbon (1737 – 1794), Fellow of the Royal Society - FRS, foi um historiador inglês. Esta é a sua principal obra, inicialmente publicada em seis volumes entre 1776 e 1788, conhecida pela qualidade e ironia da sua prosa, uso de fontes primárias e um polémico criticismo à religião organizada.

Illustrated with a portrait of the author on the title page of the first volume, on very thick paper. It also has a large (42.5x52 cm.) fold-out map of Europe in volumes I and II, and a smaller one of the European and Asian parts adjacent to ancient Constantinople in volume III.

The last unnumbered pages of the last volume correspond to a toponymic index of the work.

Incomplete copy, with the seventh volume missing. With superficial flaws on the spines and hinges of all volumes, especially the missing title label in volume III and the label with the volume number in I, II, III, VIII and X. Some pages show some browning typical of the quality of the paper.

Edward Gibbon (1737 - 1794), Fellow of the Royal Society - FRS, was an English historian. This is his major work, initially published in six volumes between 1776 and 1788, known for the quality and irony of his prose, use of primary sources and a polemical critique of organised religion.
