Exemplar com dois carimbos e uma assinatura de posse coeva de um convento de agostiniano alemão na folha de rosto. Apresenta ocasionais sublinhados a tinta. Encontra-se em excelente estado de conservação.

Dedicatória impressa datada de 1637, Helmstadt, e dirigida a Benedictus Oheim, nas páginas 3 a 5. Últimas quatro páginas não numeradas com errata e uma carta de Christian Friedrich Frankenstein datada de Junho de 1653, onde elogia a presente obra. A última página em branco.

Primeira edição. Foi publicada uma segunda edição em 1658, em Helmstadt, por Henning Müller. Existem cinco cópias conhecidas, das quais quatro em bibliotecas alemãs:

Obra inicial sobre astronomia esférica, sob a visão geocêntrica de Ptolomeu, organizada em quatro partes, das quais a quarta ocupa a maior parte da obra, das páginas 41 a 104.

Apresenta vários problemas e teoremas associados a geometria esférica, aplicados ao caso especial da Terra, como, por exemplo, o estudo da duração variável dos dias ao longo do ano, dos solstícios e dos equinócios; da movimentação de planetas e constelações na esfera celeste; os círculos de declinação; a longitude e os círculos de latitude; o círculo equinocial; etc., etc.

Johann von Felden (c. 1615 - Halle (Saale), c. 1668) foi um filósofo, professor universitário, advogado, jurista e conselheiro. Era senhor de um solar em Neukirchen, perto de Halle (Saale) e proprietário de uma parte de uma salina em Halle (Saale). Teve uma filha de nome Margarethe Kircheim (1649 – 1685).

O autor é referido pela primeira vez no poema escrito em honra de Felden e do professor Johannes Brenneccius por Werner Leidenfrost (1614-1673) publicado em 1639 em Helmstadt. A sua primeira obra, Auspice Jehova Sub Praesidio, é publicada em 1640 em Helmstadt. Até 1690 foram publicadas cerca de quarenta obras nas quais participa como autor ou colaborador, sobre os mais variados assuntos, desde as ciências físicas à geometria, da filosofia aristotélica à jurisprudência romana. Algumas destas obras eram utilizadas e recomendadas em certas cadeiras universitárias. Felden lecionou matemática na universidade de Helmstedt.

Christian Friedrich Frankenstein (Leipzig, 1621 – Leipzig, 1679) foi um professor, filólogo clássico e historiador alemão. Em 1643 eleito reitor da escola secundária Alte Nikolaischule em Leipzig; em 1650 reitor da escola secundária Stadtgymnasium Halle (Saale); em 1652 professor de Filologia e História na Universidade de Leipzig e mais tarde, em 1661 reitor da mesma.

Copy with two stamps and an handwritten ownership title from a German Augustinian convent on the title page. Occasional underlining in ink. In very good condition.

Printed dedication dated 1637, Helmstadt, and addressed to Benedictus Oheim, on pages 3 to 5. Last four unnumbered pages with errata and a letter from Christian Friedrich Frankenstein dated June 1653, in which he praises the present work. The last page is blank.

First edition. A second edition was published in 1658 in Helmstadt by Henning Müller. There are five known copies, four of which are in German libraries:

Early work on spherical astronomy, under Ptolemy's geocentric vision, organised into four parts, of which the fourth takes up the majority of the work, from pages 41 to 104.

It presents various problems and theorems associated with spherical geometry, applied to the special case of the Earth, such as the study of the variable length of days throughout the year, the solstices and equinoxes; the movement of planets and constellations on the celestial sphere; the circles of declination; the longitude and latitude circles; the equinoctial circle; etc., etc..

Johann von Felden (c. 1615 - Halle (Saale), c. 1668) was a philosopher, university professor, lawyer, jurist and counsellor. He owned a manor house in Neukirchen, near Halle (Saale) and part of a saltworks in Halle (Saale). He had a daughter named Margarethe Kircheim (1649 - 1685).

The author is mentioned for the first time in the poem written in honour of Felden and the teacher Johannes Brenneccius by Werner Leidenfrost (1614-1673) published in 1639 in Helmstadt. His first work, Auspice Jehova Sub Praesidio, was published in 1640 in Helmstadt. Until 1690, he published around forty works in which he participated as author or collaborator, on a wide variety of subjects, from physical sciences to geometry, from Aristotelian philosophy to Roman jurisprudence. Some of these works were used and recommended in certain university courses. Felden taught maths at Helmstedt University.

Christian Friedrich Frankenstein (Leipzig, 1621 - Leipzig, 1679) was a German teacher, classical philologist and historian. In 1643 he was elected rector of the Alte Nikolaischule secondary school in Leipzig; in 1650 rector of the Stadtgymnasium Halle (Saale) secondary school; in 1652 professor of Philology and History at the University of Leipzig and later, in 1661 rector of the same.
