Rara edição italiana da obra de John Hill A Decade of curious and elegant trees and plants, Londres 1773. O tradutor terá sido provavemente Gaspar Xuarez, um padre jesuita na Argentina que adicionou estensas notas de rodapé em italiano. As gravuras da edição inglesa terão sido desenhadas pelo autor. Algumas das plantas são descritas pela primeira vez nesta obra. Esta edição parece fazer parte de várias tentativas sistematicas de introdução em Itália de plantas recém descobertas e exóticas. Cada planta apresenta o nome em inglês, italiano e latim, assim como a descrição do seu habitat e caracteristicas. As plantas americanas descritas incluem três muito raras.

John Hill (1714-75) era conhecido por ter um jardim botanico em Bayswater (Londres) e foi o primeiro director dos reais jardins em Kew.

The rare Italian version of Hill"s, A Decade of curious and elegant trees and plants: drawn after specimens received from the East Indies, and America, in the year 1772 (London 1773); the translator (probably Gaspar Xúarez, a Jesuit priest from Argentina, has supplied extensive footnotes in Italian. It has been suggested that Hill himself made the drawings for the original work (see Henrey, II, p682); some of the plants are depicted here for the first time. This translation appears to have been part of a series introducing newly-discovered foreign and exotic species to Italy. Each plant is named in English, Italian and Latin, with descriptions of habitat and characteristics. American plants include the "Upright Lima Lilly" from Peru, the "Venus Fly Trap" (swamps of Carolina & Pennsylvania), and "Yellow American Water-Lilly" (North American lakes). John Hill (1714-75) was known to have had a botanic garden at Bayswater in London; he was an apothecary in Covent Garden, and according to J. Thornton was the "First superintendent of Royal Gardens at Kew".
