Primeira edição italiana publicada em Pescia. Publicado inicialmente em 1490, com o título de Heptaplus de opere sex dierum geneseos. A obra inclui sete livros, cada um dividido em sete capítulos, com um prólogo e uma conclusão. Apresenta uma interpretação alegórica do mundo, segundo o autor, composto de três partes (elementares, angelicais, celestiais), da qual o homem é a imagem perfeita: a parte elementar é o corpo, que é a inteligência angelical e que Celestial é a alma.

Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, filósofo, teólogo e humanista italiano, estudou direito canônico em Bolonha; humanidades em Florença, em Ferrara em 1480-82, e em Pádua. Ajudado por uma memória prodigiosa e proverbial, estudou os clássicos gregos e a literatura árabe e judaica da Cabala. Profundamente religioso, tentou conciliar a sabedoria antiga (aristotélico-medieval, judaico-cabalista, e hermética) com a revelação cristã. O Papa Inocêncio VIII condenou toda a sua obra, e a brevidade da sua vida impediu-o de chegar a conclusões. Pico esteve entre os partidários do monge reformista Girolamo Savonarola; tendo-se refugiado em França (1488), onde ele foi preso. Reconciliado com o Papa retornou a Florença, e dedicou-se à elaboração de obras filosóficas e teológicas até à sua morte. Muito influenciado por Platão, Pico aceitou o ideal do "amor socrático" entre homens popularizados por Marsílio Ficino. No seu túmulo encontra-se o epitáfio: «Aqui jaz Mirandola, conhecido mesmo do Tejo e do Ganges, e talvez até mesmo dos antípodas. Morreu em 1494, viveu 32 anos».

Presents an allegorical interpretation of the world, according to the author, composed of three parts (elementary, angelic, heavenly), of which man is the perfect image: a basic part is the body, which is the angelic intelligence, and heavenly is the soul.

Giovanni Pico della Mirandola was a philosopher, theologian and Italian humanist. He studied law at Bologna; and humanities in Florence and Ferrara in 1480-82, and in Padova. Helped by a prodigious and proverbial memory, he studied the Greek classics and the Arab and Jewish literature of the Kabbalah. Deeply religious, he tried to reunite the ancient knowledge (Aristotelian-medieval Judeo-Kabbalist, and hermetic) with the Christian revelation. Pope Innocent VIII condemned all his works, and the brevity of his life prevented him from reaching conclusions. Pico was among the supporters of the reformist monk Girolamo Savonarola; and had to seek refuge in France (1488), where he was arrested. Reconciled with the Pope he returned to Florence, and devoted to his philosophical and theological writtings until his death. Heavily influenced by Plato, Pico accepted the ideal of the "Socratic love' between men popularized by Marsilio Ficino. On his tomb stands the epitaph: 'Here rests Mirandola, known even from the river Tagus to the river Ganges, and maybe even on the Antipodes. He died in 1494, lived 32 years '.
