Encadernação da época inteira de pele mosqueada com super-libris armoriado em ambas as pastas e atilhos em fita de verde. Ilustrado com a folha de rosto contendo uma portada com uma tarja de figuras decorativas enquadrando o título em forma de occiali no estilo quinhentista.

Super-libris do Marquês de Caracena, Don Luis Benavides Carrillo de Toledo, que foi general dos exércitos da Flandres, governador do Milanesado, e Capitão Geral das Armadas e Frotas da Carreira das Índias. A Biblioteca de Caracena composta por mais de 6000 livros foi vendida pelos seus descendentes nos finais do século XIX dispersando-se. Os seus exemplares são sempre raros e muito estimados.

Obra com as cartas ou relatórios de Fernando Cortez (1485-1547), conquistador do México, e enviadas por este ao Imperador Carlos V, nas quais se descreve a conquista de Temixtitan, vulgo Tenochtitlan ou Cidade do México.

Sobre o mapa em falta nesta cópia: há dúvidas se todos os exemplares desta edição os apresentavam. O mapa foi feito originalmente para a edição de Nuremberga neste mesmo ano de 1524. Assim os mapas da edição de Veneza podem ter uma única e a mesma origem na edição de Nuremberga. Este mapa contém, na verdade, dois mapas em um fólio: um dos quais representa Tenochtitlan (Cidade do México), elaborado pelos Méxicas e oferecido a Cortez como um presente no período 1519-1521; junto com um mapa da costa do Golfo do México e parte do Sudeste dos actuais Estados Unidos, preparado quer pelo Méxicas ou por um explorador espanhol da época da conquista.

Binding: 17th Century full calf with heraldic ownership from the Marquis of Caracena (1608-1668) a Spanish general and political figure. He served as Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands between 1659 and 1664. Raised in a noble Spanish family, he made a career in the army during the many battles in Italy and Flanders between 1629 and 1659. He was Governor of Milan between 1648 and 1656. In 1664 he returned to Spain, to assume command of the war against Portugal after the defeat of John of Austriain 1663 in the Battle of Ameixial, near Estremoz. Caracena wasn't able to change the tide, and he was defeated in the Battle of Montes Claros, near Vila Viçosa in 1665. After the battle, Caracena was charged with treason and cowardice. Afterwards, he was disregarded and died of disease in 1668.

About the missing map on this copy: there is much doubt that all the copies of this Venetian edition had the map. The map was originally made for the Nuremberg edition on this same year of 1524. Then the maps of the Venetian edition might have one and the same origin in the Nuremberg"s edition. This map, actually two separate maps in one sheet, one of Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) prepared by the Mexicas and presented to Cortez as a gift in the 1519-1521 period; and a map of the Gulf Coast of Mexico and the southeastern part of the present-day United States, was prepared either by the Mexicas or by a contemporary Spanish explorer.
