In 4º Impreso em Colónia por Johan Buchsmacher, em 1587. Becker p. 175: obra notável e especial pelas magníficas tarjas ornamentais onde se encontram pequenos quadros com o mais memorável acontecimento das suas vidas. Pequenas histórias dos reinados em legenda sob estas representações de enquadramento. Exemplar perfeitamente preservado. Obra de uma raridade extraordinária».

 Engraved with woodcut initial; wood cut tail-piece; and title page vignette with royal arms of France. Illustrated with 62 etched bust portraits by Amman and Solis within typographic frames, surmounting a vignette from the life of the depicted king; chiefly copies of the engraved portraits, ascribed to C. Corneille, in Epitome Gestorvm LVIII Regvm Franciae, Lyon, B. Arnoullet, 1546 and were first used in the Latin edition Effigies Regum Francorum omnium, Nuremberg, 1576. . Contemporary binding finished on a manuscript palimpsest. Provenance: book plate of Rosenheim Collection Nº A3.

FIRST GERMAN EDITION, and second edition of this finely executed portrait book. The accompanying German text is by Michael Eytzinger, publicist and historian who was for some time in the service of emperors Ferdinand II and Maximilian II. (The first edition of these plates was issued with a Latin text in Augsburg by Katharine Gerlack & Heirs of J. vom Berg 1576). A third edition appeared in Cologne in 1598. All editions are quite rare.
