Obra contém a história universal até ao final do século primeiro da Era Cristã tal como era entendida pela Igreja Católica Romana. Apresenta uma cronologia resumida dos factos históricos, desde o “principio do Mundo” até Cristo, com o Mundo a começar no ano de 3945 antes de Cristo. Além da cronologia desde Adão até a morte do apóstolo João no ano 109 d. c. esta obra também fornece uma descrição da Palestina e das antiguidades de Jerusalém, a descrição dos lugares, e a descrição das tribos de Israel.

Christian Van Kruik Adrichem, padre católico e teólogo, nasceu em Delft em 1533 e morreu em Colónia em 1585. Ordenado em 1566 foi superior do Convento de Santa Barbara em Delft até à sua expulsão pela Reforma. Outras obras do mesmo autor: 'Vita Jesu Christi' (Antuérpia, 1578) e 'Theatrum Terrae Sanctae et Biblicarum Historiarum' (Colónia, 1590).

Important work on the history of Palestine and Holy Land with attactive maps. This popular work was translated into many languages (as late as 1857 into French) and appeared in numerous editions. All five editions till 1628 were issued by the same publisher and were page for page re-editions.

Christiaan van Adrichem (1533-1585) studied theology in Louvain and became superior of the St Barbara convent in his hometown Delft. As a result of the revolt against Spain, Van Adrichem left Delft in 1572 and settled in Cologne, where he served as prior of the monastery Nazareth. He was interested in the topography of the Holy Land and collected material from histories and travel accounts, some of which were subsequently lost.

This work starts with a description of the Holy Land according to tribe, accompanied by one general map and ten maps depicting the territory of each tribe. The description of Jerusalem published in 1585 is included, and the work ends with a Chronicon, a chronology of biblical events from the creation of the world till the death of the apostle St. John. It is preceded by a chronological table which ends in the year 1585.
