Folha de rosto impressa a preto e vermelho, com pequeno florão ornamental sobre o pé de imprensa. Impressão muito nítida, em duas colunas, com excepção das peças preliminares, em caracteres redondos na maior parte do texto e caracteres itálicos na dedicatória, nos sumários dos capítulos, citações no texto e índice do Regimento. Está ornamentada com cabeção com as armas de Portugal ao centro, na dedicatória e na página 1, inicial decorada na dedicatória e dois florões de remate na página 382, 408 e um cabeção decorativo no início do Regimento.

Exemplar com leves desgastes superficiais na encadernação, em especial no pé das pastas, das charneiras e nos cantos. Folhas com alguns picos de humidade devido à qualidade do papel.

As páginas preliminares contêm uma dedicatória do impressor a três Inquisidores, entre eles S. Domingos; um prólogo ao leitor e o índice dos capítulos. O texto da obra termina na página 381, a página 382 inclui a Protestação de fidelidade à Igreja Católica e as páginas 383 a 408 o índice temático. As últimas 28 páginas contêm o texto em português do «Regimento do Juízo das Confiscações pelo Crime de Heresia, e Apostasia», com índice próprio, nas páginas 25 a 28.

A 1ª edição foi publicada em 1699 e existe uma edição de 1735. Depois desta edição de 1747, que tem a menção de segunda edição, não tendo em conta a edição de 1735, foi publicada ainda uma edição apresentada como terceira [realmente 4ª] em 1759.

Obra muito importante para o estudo do funcionamento da Inquisição em Portugal. Contém textos em latim mas também muitos em português, e castelhano sobre os privilégios com que eram recompensados os familiares. Toda a documentação sobre os familiares incluindo esta obra e os processos de habilitação dos familiares são uma fonte de excepcional importância para o estudo da sociedade do século XVII e XVIII. Entre 1571 e 1820 foram nomeados cerca de 20 mil familiares.

Os familiares do Santo Ofício eram os agentes da Inquisição que tratavam das diligências policiais do tribunal, desde o controlo dos que cometessem actos que recaíssem sobre a alçada do tribunal, a realização de buscas, confiscos, prisões e a condução dos detidos às instalações do Tribunal, assim como e o acompanhamento dos condenados nos autos de fé. Era um ofício muito procurado e mesmo disputado, exercido por fidalgos (na fase final, também por outras categorias sociais) e cujo desempenho era um factor de prestígio e ascensão social.

Diogo Guerreiro Camacho de Aboim (Quinta dos Guerreiros, Ourique 1663 - Lisboa 15 de Agosto de 1709). Formado em direito pela Universidade Coimbra exerceu diversos cargos, tais como: Juiz de Fora de Montemor o Velho, Juiz dos Órfãos de Lisboa, Juiz do Fisco do Território de Évora, Desembargador do Porto, Desembargador da Casa da Suplicação, em 17 de Novembro de 1703 e Desembargador dos Agravos a 20 de Abril de 1709. É autor de um notável conjunto de obras jurídicas: Tractatus de Recusationibus, 1699; De Munere Judiciis Orphanorum, 7 volumes, 1699-1736; Decisiones et Quaestiones Forenses, 1738, assim como uma obra de reflexão filosófica e moral - Escola Moral Política Cristã e Jurídica, Lisboa, 1733.

Clear title page printed in black and red, with small ornamental fleuron over the press foot. Very clear printing, in two columns, except for the preliminary parts, in round characters in most of the text and italics in the dedication, chapter summaries, quotations in the text and index to the Regimento. It is decorated with a headpiece with the coat of arms of Portugal in the centre, on the dedication and on page 1, a decorated initial on the dedication, and two finishing fleurons on pages 382, 408 and a decorative headpiece at the beginning of the Regimento.

Copy with light signs of surface wear on the binding, particularly at the foot of the boards, the hinges and at the corners. Leaves with some moisture spikes due to the quality of the paper.

The preliminary pages contain a dedication by the printer to three Inquisitors, among them St. Dominic; a prologue to the reader and the chapter index. The text of the work ends on page 381, page 382 includes the Protestation of fidelity to the Catholic Church and pages 383 to 408 the thematic index. The last 28 pages contain the Portuguese text of the 'Regimento do Juízo das Confiscações pelo Crime de Heresia, e Apostasia' (Rules of the Trial of Confiscations for the Crime of Heresy and Apostasy), with its own index, on pages 25 to 28.

The 1st edition was published in 1699 and there is an edition of 1735. After this 1747 edition, which has the mention of a second edition, not taking into account the 1735 edition, there was also published an edition presented as a third [really 4th] edition in 1759.

Very important work for the study of the functioning of the Inquisition in Portugal. It contains texts in Latin but also many in Portuguese, and Castilian on the privileges with which relatives were rewarded. All the documentation on relatives, including this work and the processes of enabling relatives are an exceptionally important source for the study of 17th and 18th century society. Between 1571 and 1820 some 20,000 familiars were appointed.

The familiars of the Holy Office were the Inquisition"s agents who dealt with the court"s police procedures, from controlling those who committed acts that fell under the court"s jurisdiction, to carrying out searches, confiscations, arrests and leading the detainees to the court"s facilities, as well as accompanying the condemned to the auto-da-fé(Act of Faith). It was a much sought after and even disputed trade, exercised by noblemen (in the final phase, also by other social categories) and whose performance was a factor of prestige and social ascension.

Juiz de Fora (judge from the outsider) of Montemor o Velho, Judge of the Orphans of Lisbon, Judge of the Tax of the Territory of Évora, Desembargador do Porto (District Court Judge of Oporto), Desembargador da Casa da Suplicação (District Court Judge of the House of Suplication (Court of Appeal)), on 17 November 1703 and Desembargador de Agravos (District Court Judge of the Appeals) on 20 April 1709. He is the author of a remarkable set of juridical works: Tractatus de Recusationibus, 1699; De Munere Judiciis Orphanorum, 7 volumes, 1699-1736; Decisiones et Quaestiones Forenses, 1738, as well as a work of philosophical and moral reflection - Escola Moral Política Cristã e Jurídica, Lisbon, 1733.
