SIMI. (Nicolò) THEORICAE PLANETARUM IN COMPENDIUM REDACTAE,

Mathematicarum artium professorem. Cum Ces. Maiest. gratia & priuilegio ad decennium. BASILEAE, PER IOANnem Oporinum. [Cólofon]: BASILEAE, EX OFFIcina Ioan. Oporini, Anno Salutis humanae M. D. L V, [1555], Mense Februario.

In 8º (16,5x10,5 cm).

[EN] Work of the 16th century on astronomy and celestial mechanics. Binding in recent hard parchment, a perfect replica of the 16th Century.

With many illustrations representing circles and depictions of the celestial spheres showing the translation periods of the planets in the zodiac.

Copy with many contemporary and pertinent handwritten notes in Latin, being the comments to 'anomalous data' very relevant, since this theory of the celestial mechanics ignored the elliptical motion (accepting only the circular motion, as it was usual before Tycho Brahe, Kepler and Copernicus) and assuming the earth as the centre of the solar system, like it is depicted in the countless orbital representations in this book.

Nicolo Simi philosopher and mathematician, born around 1530 in Bologna and died there in 1564. He was professor of astronomy and arithmetics at the University of Bologna.

Bibliographia relativa: Grassi p. 652.»
